As an abstract painter working in mixed media, I find my inspiration in landscapes that have meaning to me.
Abstracting the landscape gives me an oppurtunity to express the impact it has on me, the experience of it, rather than trying to paint a realistic image.
Starting with rough sketches and photographs, I then build up my work in layers, seeking to create a sense of depth and history. Trying to keep in touch with the original emotions during the process of painting.
It is this process of gradually building the layers, the joy of playing with the material, the wonder of the emerging image, that is my greatest motivation in painting.
