Over the years

A love in the summer long ago, kept alive for one year by daily letters by airmail (email nor whatsapp existed yet) and one long distance call once a week. Forty years later I found the letters in a box, hidden away in the attic. I didn’t want to hide them nor throw them away, but I sought to bring new life to them in my memory by using them in my paintings. Trying to express my feelings evoked by those memories through paint.
In the series “Remembering that summer, that year” (2024) these old loveletters form the concrete basis of the paintings, with in the abstraction the feelings of melancholy and loss, memories of sunny days, and saudade.
